Many of the crime fiction novels I read involve the disappearance of someone, often a young female. It's a well-used plot element, but it's a whole other thing when it happens in real life.
A young woman from my community disappeared while walking home after work. Our community is a typical one in the suburbs - lots of families, green spaces, and very limited serious crime. She's been missing since last Thursday, and there's been no sign of her since then. Her bank card and cell phone haven't been used, either. You've got to keep up hope, but it's getting more and more difficult as time goes on.
I know disappearances happen all the time, unfortunately. But the old cliche is true...no one ever thinks it will happen in their own backyard. When it does, it's shocking, scary, and terribly sad.
Wow, that's not quite my backyard, but I do know Barrhaven. Scary. When will they connect it (if at all) to Ardeth Wood?

There were murmurings in the media about the connection to the Ardeth Wood case, but there's been no official word.
Police and the girl's family are still holding out hope that she's alive, so I imagine that they don't want to focus on the similarity with that other case.
