Randall Hicks is an adoption lawyer who has created a new series featuring an adoption lawyer. He writes what he knows, and it really shows in his first book, THE BABY GAME. He must also know of twists and turns, surprises, and comedy because this book is full of all of that good stuff!
Quick synopsis: Attorney Toby Dillon, a graduate of UCLA (Uncle Charlie's Law Academy) and part time Assistant Tennis Pro, agrees to help his two best childhood friends, Brogan and Rita (Hollywood's glamour couple) adopt a baby. Everything, including the media coverage, goes well but that all comes to an end with a kidnapping. With no ransom note and no baby, the attention turns to the birth mother...until she's discovered missing too! What began as a simple adoption turns into something much more complicated and much more sinister.
This is a top-notch mystery with great characters and lots of laugh-out-loud funny bits. The main character is likeable and really well written. The story flowed well, and was punctuated with just the right number of twists and turns. I gasped, I laughed out loud, and I just couldn't put it down until I had finished the very last page.
One Toby book is not enough, and I was thrilled to find out that the next in the series, BABY CRIMES, will be published in June 2006.
