I've never actually listened to an audio book, but after seeing this commercial from HarperCollins, I may have to reconsider next time I'm walking around NYC. ;)
The commercial actually reminds me of a time when I was much younger and riding my bike home from school. My adolescent brain figured that I could safely bike and read at the same time (look Ma, no hands!). It actually worked for a little while...until I ran into a parked car. Ouch.
I started listening to audiobooks when I would find myself driving and wondering if I could pick up the book on the passenger seat and find a way to read it. I never did, but it was sooo tempting. I went straight to the library and picked up an audio book.
My mother is on the road all day and has been into audiobooks forever. She refers to herself as "very well read to."

I've been listening to audiobooks for years, usually in the car while I'm driving. I used to think I was cheating, but in reality I was squeezing in more reading time. Then I read that Stephen King listens to audiobooks and considers it reading (I think it was in On Writing), so I didn't feel so bad.
But only listen to the unabridged versions...

I'm going to have to try an audio book. I've only listened to one, ever.

I really like your site. I listen to audio books while I quilt. It's the only way to do two of my favorite things at once. I am totally hooked.

I loved that ad! I read all the time and everywhere so i agree it's time to switch to audio! The problem is I love the whole sensation, holding the book, turning the pages...
